As a fan myself, I realized that if we love certain artists, we’re also naturally keen to discover what networks and circles those artists we love, move in. I’d love to know for example, what Leonard Cohen listens to when he’s chilling with a cup of tea.
Now generally speaking, artists tend to hang out, play and collaborate with musicians they themselves like, so it’s often a safe bet that you’ll like the music that your favourite artist likes. Many music platforms try to guess and artificially create links between artists for the consumer, “if you dig this, you’ll like this too etc” but these recommendations are created by programs that put together artists and music based on data collection.
If an Amazon buyer purchases Nick Drake and John Martyn albums, if you then click on John Martyn, a window with a Nick Drake album will appear with a recommendation.
It’s so easy to listen to music today, to consume it, it’s all there a click away but as we channel surf from artist to artist on Spotify or Deezer, hoping to discover some unknown treasure, what better recommendation could there be than one made by the artists themselves?
Our compilation personalizes the process, no data collection or prying analysis needed, The Many Are One is simply me introducing you directly to the artists I love. We draw the dotted lines and you can join them up!. As surprising as some of those links may be, I’m confident that you’ll get the connection I make between Horsedreamer and Ben Harper, between Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino and Jasser Haj Youssef or between William Patrick Duncan and Jenny Lysander. I’m not just playing the role of curator/producer here I’m also contributing, as almost all of the artists have, with an unreleased and exclusive new song to the compilation.
I could go on and on as my enthusiasm for the songs on this record know no bounds, I’m proud of the work we’ve done to make it all happen and I’m extremely grateful to all the fantastic artists who have made it possible. Above all our aim is to put out innovative and beautiful music for you, and with your support, the sky’s the limit!
